Representation
Hello blog! Today I will be discussing our group representation in our film 'The Boxerman'. As representation is crucial, particularly in the modern world, we want to make sure that our movie doesn't come off as insulting or stereotyped in any manner. There are many different ethnic backgrounds represented in our diversified film. These include Chinese and Jamaican -- Aspen; Jamaican -- Zane and Ajani; meanwhile I am Nicaraguan. Our cast is varied, so we had to be careful how we depicted our characters to avoid coming off as demeaning or stereotyped to any one race or culture. When assigning roles, we chose based on who physically fit the character best. For instance, Zane played Boxerman because he is shorter but lean, which suited the characterization of the role. I was selected as the henchman because my height made me appear more intimidating and "villain-like". Aspen played Kung-fu Kid because he created the character himself and knew how to portray his personality perfectly. Lastly, Ajani was chosen to play Brutus due to his frame. Ajani has a more muscular and bigger frame compared to the rest of us which would be best to play the crime boss, Brutus. In conclusion, I believe our film was diverse and not offensive to any particular demographic group.
