Former Student Work
Hello blog! Today we will look at five different film openers, Roll Call, New Everything, Dreamland, Dear Lover and Dare to Thrill. Each film had its own set of unique strengths and weaknesses. Each one was created by students for the same reason we are, creating an opener to submit to AICE!
Let's look at the first film, Roll Call. Personally, I enjoyed the film, but it did have its weaknesses such as the audio. I had a hard time personally hearing what was going on in the film even with airpods in, I couldn’t understand it the best which I feel makes a film not as successful since people can’t hear. Another flaw I noticed was the poor lighting in the opener, I felt that if the lighting was improved you would be able to see the faces of the characters better and wouldn't need to increase your brightness. Though they had some weaknesses they did have strengths like the props, and editing skills. Both of these strengths were creative and skillful which added a happy effect to the opener.
Continuing on let's look at New Everything. In the opener there were several positive and negative aspects to the opener. Among the positive ones are the crystal-clear audio, seamless transitions and perfectly done cuts throughout the 2 minutes. These attributes contributed to a enhanced viewing experience. The lighting on the other hand was a clear flaw in the opener. With better lighting the film would've been way more visibly and enhanced the viewing experience. This opener with few improvements would’ve been a 10/10 but it was still quite nice!
Next one we will look at is Dreamland. Diving right in the innovative lighting and lovely hues created such a lovely aesthetic to the whole opener. Another factor was the angles used in the film that created a visually appealing film. Furthermore, the music that they chose to add onto the film was a perfect touch to complete the aesthetic that they were aiming for it was the cherry on top. However, every project has a flaw and for this project I believe that the editing was that flaw, and it varied in quality. Other than those small details the film was really great, and I enjoyed it!
Moving on Dear Lover had like all the other films had its pros and cons. Something worth mentioning would be that all the scenes are well organized and flow together. Though the audio was severely muffled but to my surprise that was used to enhance the silence that they actually wanted in the film. The film thought had a lot of jittering shots that might lose viewers attention. Even with flaws this film was really pleasant to watch.
Last but not least, lets look at the final video Dare to Thrill. Dare to Thrill had brilliant illustrations as skillful lighting which was really refreshing to see as many people struggle with lighting. The music as well was perfectly matched with the opener which allowed for a pleasant watching experience. The one flaw that i noticed was the poor-quality images which is common for such films. This opener was truly one of my favorites, the thrill the cuts definitely a recommended watch!
That's my review! I hope you enjoyed reading my personal opinion and all these openers and stay tuned for more blogs!
