Movie Analysis

Hello blog, today I will analyze 5 scenes from Avengers: Endgame. My Analysis will focus on how camera angles added to the feeling which was intended to be evoked from the scene itself.

Camera Angle 1: Closeup

This is a scene in Avengers: Endgame where it displays Iron Man's helmet damaged. This shot is a powerful tool as it single handedly evokes a heartbreaking mood. This overall reflects on the depressing events that Iron Man experiences throughout the movie. By focusing on a Iron Man's helmet, with the eyes glowing, the audience can get a sense of hope to the seeming hopeless outcome for Iron Man. This conveys a sense of deep sorrow and can be used as a moment of recollection for the audience. Additionally, the use of shadows and low lighting create a gloomy atmosphere, contributing to the overall depressing tone of the scene.

Camera Angle 2: Extreme Wide Shot

This scene in Avengers: Endgame was used as an establishing shot for the movie. This scene showcases and foreshadows the upcoming battle that will take place throughout the movie. The directors intended for this scene to show a plethora of charcaters and spaceships to add to the intense and chaotic atmosphere of the battle scenes that follow this extreme wide shot. An extereme wide shot was also used to show the background that is supposed to be another planet with many sci-fi aspects such as aliens. This would not have been possible with any other shot filmed at a closer angle.

Camera Angle 3: Over the Shoulder Shot

This scene in Avengers: Endgame shows Captain Marvel and Thor having a discussion through an over the shoulder shot. The over the shoulder shot was specifically used for this purpose, to put emphasis on the discussion. Furthermore, this specific shot was used to build tension through the discussion. This can be reinforced through Captain Marvel's facial expressions.

Camera Angle 4: Midshot

This shot in Avengers: Endgame shows Thor displaying his power through a midshot. This shot is a midshot since it only shows the top of Thor's torso and above. This shot was used to create a sense of action towards Thor and his newly gained weapon. In addition, this midshot only highlights him in the frame and his weapon; there is little to no focus on the background of the scene. The lightning surrounding him displays his massive amount of power and evokes an empowering mood towards the audience. This scene serves as a build up to the upcoming conflicts throughout the movie. As basic and insignifact this midshot may seem, it is crucial to the flow of the plot.

Camera Angle 5: Two-Shot

This two-shot in Avengers: Endgame displays Hawkeye and Black Widow aiming their weapons. This two-shot was included to show two characters that are exteremely important to the plot. They are shown with weapons to show their fierce and fearless personalitites. This evokes a lionhearted mood and readers can almost feel the precense of both characters through the screen. The two-shot also shows the relationship between both characters and how they are seen fighting along side one another -- in other words having each other's back.
